KXOL and Channel 5 veterans
pose for a photo at the KXOL Reunion, September, 2001. Pictured are
Bob Bruton, Russ, Roy, Breck Harris and Bill Hix. Bob,
who was a KXOL
program director, host of the overnight music program, "Midnight 'til Dawn,"
and occasional host of WFAA's "Dialing for Dollars" afternoon movie in
the 1960s and 70s, is currently self-employed as a communications consultant.
Roy,
former KXOL newsman, owns the Wise County Messenger newspaper today, and
does announcing for the Fort Worth Stock Show parade. Breck,
former WBAP-TV newsman, is a retired spokesman for Lone Star Gas and currently
announces Fort Worth Stock Show arena events. Bill,
also
a former KXOL and WBAP-TV newsman, died a mere five months after this photo,
on February 25, 2002 of a heart attack. He was retired from public
relations for the Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital (now the University of
North Texas Health Science Center)

A
day at the lake...

A publicity shoot at Eagle
Mountain Lake in northwest Fort Worth had the news anchors aboard the Dividend
II for a boat ride. The crew poses for two group shots, top, while
Ward takes the controls (left). Russ is probably radioing for help!

help out Harold (right).

Conspicuous by his absence
was Boyd; Russ explains what happened: "A
classic 'Boyd moment' concerned a publicity photo shoot of us (Ward, Chip,
Russ, Harold and Boyd) on a beautiful cruise boat moored at Eagle Mountain
Lake. The photo appeared as the front cover of 5's monthly news magazine.
However, Boyd is missing! Running late, Boyd rushed to the rural
site in a newly-purchased car. Unfortunately, he hit some country
train tracks at a high rate of speed and went sailing through the air.
The car was wrecked and Boyd, while unhurt, was afoot far from a telephone.
It was much later before we learned why only four of us appeared in the
picture."
